Helpful Links

This resource section of the site has links to help connect you to the great outdoors, near and far.

Meet Up Group :
Here’s a link to MeetUp group I formed to help connect folks to local outdoors as well as other adventures near by. Feel free to join up, it’s free. Join in a meet-up or make a suggestion. We’re trying to have a wide variety of activities from mild, to wild.

Waterfall Glen :
2,689 acres of trees, trails and open sky are just a 5 minute bike ride away from Downtown Lemont. A favorite climb is just east of Signal Hill on the gravel double track. It’s just over half a mile long. The “big” loop is fantastic in the winter or the summer.

Cook County Forest Preserve :
Palos Trail System : Incredible mountain bike trail network. Some of the best single track in the chicagoland area

Learn to Geocache :
Here’s the most popular Geocaching site. These days it’s handy that you can either use a GPS unit or a smart phone to track down caches. The Heritage Quarries have 9-10 caches and the Township Prairie has 4-5. Good fun for all.

Camp Sagawau Environmental Learning Center :
New learning center combined with nice Cross Country Skiing trails. When there’s enough snow, they’re open for rentals. This area is a great place to learn up to intermediates. The canyon with the waterfall are pretty cool to check out.

Options to track your own outdoor activities :

Garmin Connect :
This is a free service for Garmin users. I’ve used this site the longest and it seems to be the most accurate.

RunKeeper :

This is also a free online service that works with many different SmartPhones. I started a Street Team on RunKeeper, feel free to join up to learn where others might be enjoying the outdoors or throw down and get competitive..
