New Years Day 2016 Hike – Oldfield Oaks
Get out more in 2016, that’s our goal for the new year. Some say we get a lot, it’s not enough for me. 🙂 We’re starting off with just a simple, quick hikes.
One of our favorite places right now is a little north of Lemont off of Lemont Road in Darien. The preserve is called Oldfield Oaks. I actually remember when this was private property and I wondered what the land was like to hike on. Roughly 5 years ago, I think it became a preserve, the house was still on the land and trails were getting cut. There’s a 1.1 mile loop with a .6 mile spur. Not a whole lot of vertical change. It looks like a great place to run short laps outside. There’s a mix of folks out there, walkers/hikers, runners and dog walkers. Lots of smiles and hello’s.
For even more fun, or a reason, there are two geocaches on the grounds. They’re great caches because they’re pretty easy to find, a great place to start Geocaching. If you’ve never gone geocaching, it’s a lot of fun and just a great reason to spend time with finds on a real treasure hunt — as long as you know the treasure is being outside and trading for plastic trinkets left by those before you. My boys and I really like it and I’ve taught our Cub Scout Pack the basics.
Get out, Get local and Opt Outside.
Message me with any questions and see you out there !
