Cross Country Skiing in Lemont, Yes, Lemont…

Not many folks know, but Lemont has tremendous cross country skiing opportunities. The best part is they range from absolute beginner to advanced skater. If you’ve never skied and would like to learn or just ski on ski-only trails then Camp Sagawau is your best bet. If you’re ready for a bit more then head over to Waterfall Glen and its 9.8 mile loop with semi-groomed trails and back country. Also near by is the Palos Forest Preserve with as many miles of snow that you can handle.

The pictures on this post are from the recently renovated Camp Sagawau. While part of me misses the charm of the “old red farmhouse” new ski lodge is an excellent facility. The lodge offers rentals, small museum and a two-story fireplace in the great room. There’s roughly 5k of ski trails with tracks on the right and room to skate on the left. It’s been two years since I’ve had my boards out so stayed on the green trails and did two laps, roughly 3.8 miles. ( My GPS route is below the photos )
