Starved Rock Adventure !

Keith Nowakowski family, hiking, outdoor adventurer's

Finally a trip to Starved Rock with the boys !

Getting there.
What a great getaway from Chicago and only an hour from Lemont. This was the first trip here for my kids so I was a slightly apprehensive about wandering in the “back country”. We drove in the long way from Ottawa so that we can follow the winding road in.

Starved Rock.
We first started with the Visitors Center and quick hike to the top of the Rock. It was perfect weather and we made the rounds on the top and also spotted a couple of Bald Eagles. Not a ton of folks there, surprisingly one person complaining that there was snow & ice on the steps. I stated that it was part of the charm of the outdoors… 🙂

LaSalle Canyon.
After the short trip to the top we hopped back in the car and drove the “middle” parking lot. It’s a favorite of mine to avoid crowds and still see some cool terrain. I also knew there was little chance of falling off of a cliff. Did I mention 100+ stairs to get to the bottom ? We packed up and headed out to LaSalle Canyon. The guys really enjoyed the trail, cliffs and waterfalls. It’s about 3 miles round trip.
