My favorite part of spring are the confused temperature swings of Mother Nature. One day, or even an in an hour, we’re breaking out the shorts, the next day it’s a white out. Today was the white out. As long as you take care on the roads, it’s beautiful. On the way to the office, I […]

The weather report came in, “plan on record snowfall”… The perfect reason to grab the snow shoes and head out. Luckily Lemont has great options close by so I didn’t have to drive far — we made our way over to the south ridge of Waterfall Glen. It’s one of my favorite areas because of […]
Why stay in just because it’s cold outside ? Not enough snow to shoe, so the boys and I went over to the Heritage Quarries. We parked at the eastern most lot, and really enjoyed the drive back. Our Subaru Outback helped make the road feel like an adventure with all the pot holes from winter. […]
We weren’t sure what to do on the “last” weekend of summer, so we took out our map of Dupage County Forest Preserves and through a dart at the map. It landed on the Lyman Center. We arrived and the boys (and myself) were interested in learning more about the turf roof. The staff and […]
I had no idea what an Arctic Vortex was until this past week. I thought they were just called cold fronts, well this vortex was awesome. It brought with it -19 F degrees and about 15″ of snow. Perfect to get out and snow shoe. 🙂
Out and about with the dudes on shoes. H and I have MSR Denali’s and TRU had those Big Foot shoes. We covered about 2 miles, it was pretty awesome. I think H might need adult shoes soon, where does the time go? We hit the Arboretum an went from the library to Sterling Pond […]
They said it couldn’t be done but we did it ! H+T climbed up a mountain, after we drove a good portion… 🙂 It doesn’t matter to me or them because we had a great time and they know they’ve been to to the (almost) top of the highest point in Vermont.
We were looking for something to do on a Saturday so I decided to google “Nature Center”. To my surprise Bolingbrook Park District’s Hidden Lakes Nature Center popped up. The guys thought it was a good idea so we packed up some water and granola bars and hopped in the car. We pulled off of […]
Finally some serious snow ! Sadly it will only be here for a few days, I can’t believe March is here. In a few weeks I’ll be out for a bike ride. Back to the shoeing. Perfect conditions, maybe about 8″ of snow. I use MSR snow shoes, they seem to be perfect for the […]
Finally a trip to Starved Rock with the boys ! Getting there. What a great getaway from Chicago and only an hour from Lemont. This was the first trip here for my kids so I was a slightly apprehensive about wandering in the “back country”. We drove in the long way from Ottawa so that […]
